VERTIGO
From Latin- to turn, whirling – Beg. of XIV cent.
It happened to me, for the first time, last year upon waking up one morning.
To awake, I open my eyes and everything starts spinning so I fall back into bed and close then. “I am still sleeping” I tell myself, “Perhaps I misunderstood…”
Vertigo, or that which my doctor refers to as “el balurdun” (in milanese dialect), are indeed a strange thing. At the beginning they frighten, creating a sense of disorientation, a loss of spatial and temporal boundaries, whithout the ability to understand whether the cause is to be found in your body, your mind, or everything around them. A state which alters the perception of oneself or of one’s position in the world.
This sculpture starts from this state.
The search and research of balance is a thing that our organism does automatically, without being conscious of it. Just as a marble rolling and then stopping in a point.
Such is the point in which I started.
Which is yours?
