My name is Chiara Pellegrini.

I was born in Milan in 1975, a city that is still my departure and arrival terminal.

I study classical guitar at the Corsico’s music school while attending the Liceo Artistico (Art School) S. Marta in Milan.

Then I go to the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera where I graduate in Sculpture with Professor G. Marchese in 1998.

I start to work with sculptor Mauro Baldessarri at the realization of several sculpting projects for public pieces of art.

Then I go back to Brera for a post-graduation Master in “Light Design” and I work as intern at Studio Azzurro, where I work at the lighting engineering of some video-installations.

In 2000-2003 I work as a set designer for theatrical productions and galleries.

In 2006 I take part in the art project Stecca degli artigiani in Milan (Isola).

From 2002 I design prototypes for fashion mannequins trying to assist the journey within a production process by integrating the traditional sculptural with 3D modeling.

From November 2013 with the collective imaginariesplorazioni Solari, I participate in an audiovisual research laboratory with an anthropological approach, which wants to experiment an interdisciplinary path on the possible forms of urban living. From here comes: (IN) HABITS a documentary film directed by the collective.

Since 2000 I sing in a polyphonic choir and focusing on social singing in different expressive forms.

In recent years I approached the body, doing theater at the Arsenal school in Milan, following the Lecog method with Aida Kuniaki.

In the “meantime” I like to travel; the distance allows me to have different perspectives on things that inspire many of my works.

What attracts me most about creating art and that gets me closer to different languages its ability to recreate new equilibriums.

That is why I like to explore new materials and let my methods change according to the environment I find myself in.

In the latest years, as instrument of analysis and observation of everyday life, I started to work with photography as a way to obtain multiple layers of real-ideal perspective levels, through which I found a new approach to tridimensionality and a new awareness of the “surrounding”.

Experiences

The experience gained as a sculptor gave me the opportunity to learn from my work contexts: from the sculptural study to the production activities, comparing myself with neighborhood laboratories, exhibitions, participation in public and private competitions up to follow the realization of my public work .
This allowed me to relate in different fields and acquire multi-faceted knowledge, giving me the opportunity to collaborate with different professionals enhancing the individual specificities in group work.
To work different techniques using different traditional modeling materials: clay, plasticine, gypsum, cement, iron, resins, latex, paper, wood and the relative negative molding where necessary, silicone rubber for molds … combined with knowledge and use of graphics programs such as Photoshop, software for movies like Premier and 3D Modeling: Zbrusch, Rhinoceros, 3D studio: working the sculpture both in the form of mesch for 3D printing, and as surfaces (Reverse Engineering) for the realization of prototypes with multi-axis CNC machines .

2019 Drop Collective urban-woody sculptural installation. This project stems from the need to listen to the earth and from the desire to discover forgotten places in the city where nature has taken shape and strength. We have traced a path and created a sculptural path in the wood of the Bovisa drop, I invite you to explore it.

2017 Habitat-01- Deception 84- Housing Habitat, a term that in Latin means “he lives”, is the place whose physical and abiotic characteristics can allow a given species to live, develop, reproduce, guaranteeing quality of life. This project starts from a reflection on how art can become a form to experience the places of the imaginary in everyday life … passing from the living room of the house. The works I present have been made at home and designed for the environments in which they are located.
