2008-2009 Use and disuse – bodies in factory- installation photographic sequence and video
Project description
Use and disuse – bodies in factory
This research is driven by the will to analyze a productive process, that is what there is beyond things you see/use every day.
In some working places time stops, like you are entering the stomach of a prehistoric creature.
Lately I observed some pictures taken at the beginning of the century: “these machines, carefully built, see the workers confined to a symbolic modernity, as sculptures the human figures are placed next to the machines, the real stars… the worker is seen as a servant of the machines, which draw all the attention.”
At the same time, this work wants to emphasize the body. In the factory work you use your body in a series of often repetitive gestures; in these pictures you notice that men disappear in favor of the object that represents them… pieces of a production resurface and they are pieces of bodies you can relate to and, at the same time, you want to get away from.
Sometimes, to break down the steps of a process, productive as well as intellectual, through an analytical approach, can help to understand the motion, the direction… just as giving a sense to things means having the chance to change them.

Technical features:
This is still a work-in-progress project. It includes static images printed on paper and a monitor that will show a sequence of images edited with fade-out effect (originating to the so-called “bi-exposition”).
